Extending High School To Five Years

Some educators think extending high school to five years, is a good idea. Honestly, that is not the brightest idea. Although that would not be hard to implement, it would definitely cause student drop out rates to rise. Thinking about it logically, we already have college right after high school. High school is four years and then college is another four or more years depending on the major. Adding on an extra year of high school is just pushing it.

are just getting prepared for what real life work will be like. They are not directly working with their career in high school. They are exploring what they like and what they do not like. Adding a fifth year would just make students dislike school more than they already do. Most students just want to get the good grades and not try and actually earn the grades, so adding on a fifth year would not benefit the student. Although there are negative aspects of adding an extra year of high school, educators may have valid reasons for extending high school an extra year.
A reason why educators may think adding an extra year of high school would be good for a student would be the idea that it can give the students an opportunity to explore different careers. Adding on an extra year would be probably changing the school curriculum. More classes would need to be offered and possibly more subjects.
