As forbidden as it is, Faber teaches Mildred how to read. Secretly, everyday Mildred stops by Faber’s home and gets lessons. After weeks of lessons, Mildred realizes the importance and benefits books contain. Books open up a completely new world Mildred has not yet seen in her life. Television and boredom, just don’t make the cut any more, books are what she needs. “I’ve never really noticed the importance of reading, but I must say, I love it!” Mildred says.

After Mildred became an avid reader, her lessons with Faber came to an end. Enjoying a book in Mildred’s now peaceful home was a daily routine. Until one day there was a knock. As Mildred opened her door she noticed multiple voices, so she hesitated. Realizing police are in front of her house, Mildred soon grabs as many books as she can and escapes through her back door.
On the run, Mildred doesn’t know how to survive as a fugitive. She questions her purpose in life, and because of her obsession of reading, many things are chaotic. She returns to Faber’s.
“What are you doing here, you are wanted!” Faber says in fear.
“I didn’t know where to go, I’m a mess!” Mildred says.
“You have now put us both in great danger!” Faber says.
Flames burst through the window, firefighters have found Mildred and attempt to set Faber’s home on fire. With the fire continuously growing Mildred and Faber are trapped. Not being able to escape only means one ...
