What does faith mean? Is it an action or a belief? Faith has several meanings especially in the Bible. One of the most common meanings of the word, as it is used in the Bible, is trust in God that he will do what he said he would do. Faith is also used as an amount or degree that should be given in our worship of Jesus Christ. To go along with the degree of our worship, faith is also our own system of beliefs and how they are different from everyone else. However, of all these meanings of faith two are the most rarely see in the Bible. One is faith as a gift and the other is a body of teaching which we as Christians are expected to believe. But most of all it is giving yourself completely over to God. God will never let us down as long as we put complete trust in him.
Faith as an amount or a degree and our own system of beliefs, does not sound like a meaning of faith. But it is. This is where faith is viewed as an action more than it is viewed as a feeling. Matthew 14 and Romans 14 are both chapters in which these types of faith are found.
Faith as an amount is how much you as a Christian put into your worship of God. Do you give him an hour or more? If you could weigh the amount of time you spend with God to the other activities in your life, would he come out on top? These are all things we should ask ourselves before we say anything about our faith as an amount. Also, would our beliefs not have something to do with how our faith is viewed? Beliefs are faith. If you believe in something do you not also have faith in it? Believe in God and you have faith.
