This quote from Fahrenheit 451 explains society's opinion of books. It is their belief that people waste valuable time reading books and stories. Society feels that everyone should concentrate on learning a trade and working. They feel that books can't and don't give you any useful information. The supporting argument is that you should be practicing you trade so that you can get more work done to get more money not wasting time reading a book. This society also feels that books are corruptive and give you false ideas as to how the world should operate. I believe that the society in Fahrenheit 451 is afraid that someone will gain knowledge from books and try to revolt because according to a book, something in the community is wrong. Society feels that their life is easy just as it is, with everyone working. They also feel they are content and nothing should be changed that might upset them.
