The Green River Killer was a notorious serial murderer responsible for the murder of numerous women between 1982 and 1998 throughout King County located in Washington. This murder mystery remained at a stand still for years, but then in 2001 significant DNA evidence linked Gary Leon Ridgway to a total of seven murders. But still another forty-two murders remained unexplainable. (Seattletimes).

He explained that he would pick up a street prostitute, gain their trust, and then strangle her from behind until she was no longer breathing. Ridgway then explained he would dispose of the body near the Green River. He estimated that he killed between 25 to 28 women in his home, 11 to 15 in his vehicle, and approximately another 11 women near their dumping site. (Seattletimes). Ridgway officially pleaded guilty on November 5, 2003 (Karisable). The judge then sentenced him to 48 life sentences.

Ridgway was quickly brought back to the court room on February 18, 2011. To avoid the death penalty Ridgway pleaded guilty to murderer a 49th victim.
