However, the practice of foot binding did serious damage to women who had their feet bind. They will suffer from bound feet which is difficulty in walking, squatting and working in the field. A research about foot binding also shows that as they grow older, they were more likely to have fallen in the previous year and need assistance in rising from a sitting position. They also had lower bone density in the hip and spin than women with normal feet, this increases their risk of debilitating fractures. Further research also shown that these women who had their foot bind since they were 4 to 7 years old were susceptible to ulceration, paralysis, infections and even gangrene. There are also cases that some of the girls who did not survive the process because the pain was too much for a young girl to bear.
