Three years ago, I caused an accident that brought lifelong injuries to a stranger. I was on my way home from picking up supplies for an event my mother was having at a family business. I was driving her month old, Nissan 350-Z. I was cruising with the top down, my seat back and the music loud. It was just about dusk and I was on a back road a mile or two from my house. I heard a man say that he heard the sound of twisting metal, a sound that would turn anyone's stomach. Moments later, there was flashing lights and police cars surrounding me.
That night as I was rounding the Bend on that forest surrounded road, I took my eyes off the road for a moment and without event tapping the brakes, I slammed into a stopped SUV at about 60 mph. It was so sudden but completely my fault. It didn't take much time for me to realize what I had done. The stranger in the SUV was on his way to a pick-up soft ball game that night. Instead of playing ball, the man hurt because of my mistake. This man was going to face, not life changing but lifelong injuries that would affect him forever.
