The Hypothalamus releases the gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH). This hormone actives the pituitary gland to release the follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and the luteining hormone(LH). FSH is carried by the blood to the ovaries, where the follicle development is stimulated. The follicles secretes estrogen which initiates the mormation of the endometrium. As the estrogen level rises negative feedback shuts down the production of FSH and at the same time a messege is sent to the pituitary gland to secrete LH. After the third month the placenta provides enough estrogen and progesterone to maintain the endometrium and also to inhibit further ovulation. Conception is when the egg and the sperm meet in the oviduct to form the zygote. If the egg or the sperm have any chromosome abnormalities the baby could be born abnormal. The zygote cell starts the divide and by the sixth day enters the uterus. If the embryo starts to develop in the oviduct instead, it would parish from lack of nutrients. Once in the uterus this cluster of cells becomes the blastocyst. It attaches itself to the endometrium. This process is known as implantation.
