Gender Video Review

This video portrayed the many difficulties that people face when changing gender. Some of the most difficult aspects of changing genders for the people involved in this experiment were: completely changing their appearance (with makeup/hairstylists) dressing in drag, going out in public, trying to pass as the opposite gender, either passing or failing, and the emotional/ psychological aftereffects of doing so. The hardest part for the men was letting go of their masculinity, for instance when Ty/Darcy didn’t want to wear the fake breasts and the strap that hid his genitals. I disliked how the person who was helping the women transition to men was basically teaching them that to be men you must be angry or act on your anger. I also didn’t like the outfits the men chose to wear in their female characters. I think they should have had more professional assistance with that.
What surprised me watching this video was how hard it really was for the people involved to become the opposite gender. I think the men went into the experiment thinking it would be a lot easier being women, whereas the women went into the experiment not really sure of what to expect.
