his father’s death. This encounter is what makes Hamlet act how he does throughout the play and contributes to his ambiguous actions.
Throughout the play Hamlet acts crazy and is then open to interoperation as to whether he is truly crazy or not. Hamlet changes personalities from scene to scene which makes it difficult to determine the truth of Hamlet’s madness. Hamlet starts out at the beginning on the play witnessing the ghost of his father. The ghost was seen previously by some of the guards and other people of the castle, but it would not talk to anyone but Hamlet. When Hamlet finally spoke with the ghost, he told Hamlet some very surprising things. This surprised and frightened the witnesses. Therefore Hamlet warned his good friend Haratio ahead of time “How strange or odd soe’er I bear myself” (28) do not let anyone know this encounter has occurred tonight. This makes it seem as if Hamlet is purposely acting crazy to throw people off from his secret plan of revenge. ...
