Hamlet: Revenge That Never Works Out Like It Should Have



Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a classic example of a revenge play that never truly worked out as it should have. Time after time, Hamlet allows opportunities to slip through his hands postponing the death of his father’s murderer. One can’t help but wonder why Hamlet didn’t simply kill Claudius instantly after receiving the news from his father’s ghost proclaiming his uncle was to blame for everything that had gone awry. Hamlet does in fact deal with revenge in many different aspects. Unfortunately, because of Hamlet’s preoccupation with death, those who deserve to suffer are spared for much longer than they should have been while those who were innocent had to hurt throughout most of the play ...

arrived at what he thought would be the comfort of his family, he was given the news that his beloved father had died and his mother married his uncle weeks after. This discovery, along with everyone else’s ability to recover from the shock and grief so quickly, spoiled any sanity that Hamlet might have had before the great tragedy took place. It took all the happiness and comfort from his life and replaced it with anger and fear. This fear was instilled because of his father’s murder. Thoughts that might not have ever crossed his mind now constantly haunted him. He was afraid of dying. He was afraid of facing what he would become of him after death. Life had become a nightmare and uncertainties filled his days as he tried to make sense of what he was going through. Because of the turmoil that took control of his very soul, avenging those who did wrong was prolonged repeatedly.
