There are many different critical schools that authors use in their writing. Many authors use historical criticism in order to incorporate events as well as their own opinions. Some may think that a book belongs in the historical portion of the critical schools if it has any references to historical events, however; this is not the case. In order for a piece of literature to be placed in this category it must be written during the time the event took place. For example if a piece of literature were to be written now about world war two it would not fall under the category of historical criticism. It is believed that Shakespeare wrote the play Hamlet in 1601. Some also contemplate the idea that Shakespeare might have gotten his inspiration for the play from Amleth, which first appeared in 1514.
