The article I chose to read was , by Steven Lozano Applewhite and is titled “Homeless Veterans: Perspectives on Social Services Use.” I found this article in the Journal of the National Association of Social Workers. It is a study done on the nature and scope of homelessness and issues related to the use of social services. The way that the study was conducted, was a total of 60 male veterans volunteered their services to be in one of five focus groups that would be analyzed over a three-day period. the 1980’s until homelessness was documented, or at least “well” documented. I believe homelessness has been a problem for hundreds of years. The article also states that between 567,000 and 600,000 individuals are homeless and on any given day 200,000 of them are veterans.
When I talk about cultural diversity I not only mean the obvious groups such as African-American, Native-American, Hispanic and so on, I believe that Veterans are a part of there own culture. The men who went to Vietnam seem to have somewhat of a connection; because of what they all have seen and went through in that war. I know people who went to Vietnam and people who have fought in other wars; the Vietnam veterans are not as willing to talk about experiences as are the others.
