How does Ibsen foreshadow the plays denouement in act one of `A Doll's House'

Ibsen uses many different techniques to foreshadow the ending in the play A Doll's House. In fact, it is evident how each character is used to betray aspects of the plays ending. Being that `A Doll's House' is a naturalistic play, Ibsen uses these characteristics fairly subtlety but effectively, enabling the audience to empathize with each character because we see multiple sides of them; they are not one dimensional. We can relate with them, and this in itself helps us to anticipate the plays denouement because we can then put ourselves in their positions and question what we would do if were ...

Nora has done and the trouble she is in. She seems to still hold the same naive attitude towards spending money that she hasn't got and being that `A Doll's House' is a `well made play' we expect a character to learn from their mistakes. Therefore, can gather that something significant must happen in the play that `enlightens' Nora to her mistakes and changes her attitude.

We also see Nora's childish characteristics demonstrated through stage directions; she "tiptoes to her husband's office" and "pops a macaroon into her mouth". These actions seem more like those of a young girl than of a mother; she behaves like a child hiding sweets from their parents. The way Ibsen presents Nora to be so childlike is very significant - Children grow up and mature into adult hood and I believe this characteristic is a foreshadowing of the journey that Nora will embark on later in the play.
