Mark Twain's novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is not only about the adventures of a young boy, but also the different types of people that he encountered in the world. The novel contained many characters that portrayed different aspects of life, These characters influence of many of the decisions that had to make in the novel.
is not your typical type of main character. is the type of boy who is always getting into trouble. He often plays "hooky" from school, smokes cigarettes, and uses profanity. Huck is living with the Widow Douglas, who tries to "civilize" him, and he doesn't like it. Huck is a young boy, but has a good conscience. He displays this throughout the story. ...

Another example is at the beginning of the story when Tom decides to play a trick on Jim by hanging his hat above is head while he is asleep on the tree. Tom Sawyer often tricks people into believing things that aren't true and this makes him the type of character that you have to be weary of.
Another of these characters is Huck's father, Pap. Pap is a very cruel and dishonorable man. Not only is he an alcoholic, but he is also a thief. Pap often beats Huck for no reason and has never been a "real" father figure to him. Throughout the story, you never see Pap unless he is looking for something to take or is about to beat Huck. This is illustrated when he tries to get Huck's money from Judge Thatcher. Judge Thatcher doesn't give it to him so he tries to beat Huck into getting it for him.
