The children of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. Educating America’s youth is a top priority in this country. To ensure that the future is a bright one, proper education of all children is vital. While we recognize this today, it has not always been that way. The country is much more focused on educating its people today than ever before. Mark Twain, the author of Huckleberry Finn, recognized the importance of education in a time when not everyone did. Twain lived during the mid-1800s, and used his writing to express his opinions that could be considered in many ways ahead of his time. (p.35).” Pap has no idea that he does anything wrong, even though he is such a horrible father to his son. By showing how uneducated Pap is, and what suffering it causes Huck, Twain argues his point. A speech that Pap gives early in the novel is one of the most affective parts of this story. Pap talks about the efforts that some citizens make in the courts to remove Huck from the care of his father. He criticizes saying, “ They call this a govment! Why, just look and see what’s it’s like. Here’s the law a-standing ready to take a man’s own son away from him-a man’s own son, which he has had all the trouble and all the anxiety and all the expense of raising. Yes, just as that man has got that son raised at last, and ready to go to work and begin doing something for him and give him a rest, the law up and goes for him. And they call that govment!
