Edgar Allan Poe is among the most praised writers of all time. His dark and foreboding writing leaves the reader bereft of their own thoughts or emotions as they enter into the head of it’s masterful author. As you read on, you feel his writing pluck the strings of reality anchoring you into this world. Taking on such emotions at the simple stroke of a pen is no easy feat, but there are examples of his style of writing even today. Poe uses both animate, and inanimate objects as if they were one in the same. In Stephen King’s The Shining, he explores the madness that one man goes through when secluded in the wilderness alone with his family in a hotel haunted by it’s past residents. His seeming familiarity with Jack (the father of the family) gives the reader such imaginative insight into the mind of an insane alcoholic, that you forget all else while reading about his tirades with the manipulative "un-dead".
