On June6 1944 a massive invasion was waiting to invade on the northern coast of France, that area was called Normandy. The allies had decided to invade Normandy because they wanted to take over the northern part of France. At dawn there was 9 battleships, 23 cruisers, 104 destroyers, and 71 large landing craft including mine sweepers. In all there was about 5,000 ships in all in the invasion that was the largest naval group ever assembled. At 5:50 am the bombs blew up the mines in the shallow water and some defensive positions. beach the infantry is totally disorganized. Gradually the waves of troops get on shore and by the night there is 34,250 men on shore but there was a loss of 1000 men. That was the worst lost of men in all the beaches. Gold beach also went well. The men were organized and they got on the beach and went inland fairly rapidly. They got 25,000 men onshore and less than 500 died. That too was a success. June beach was invaded a little late because the mines in the water were hard to get by. When they did get on shore the amphibious tanks were launched correctly and they took out all the German guns. There was a traffic jam on the beach when they arrived. This too was a great victory. 21,400 men went ashore. The last beach Sword is a little longer than some of the other beaches in the area and the people worked harder to get onshore.
