Ever since big cities have been around, there has been a flood of juvenile delinquents in our penal system. There has always been the big question of how to handle the cases that get dropped on judge’s desks. Many people feel that being soft on juvenile delinquents will work, but in reality, a slap on the wrist will do nothing to help these kids transition into a world of responsibility. Others believe that these kids should serve harsh sentences for their crimes. The challenge that our judicial system is facing, is finding a middle ground. If a person is murdered, justice should be brought down hard upon the criminal to ease the minds of the victim’s family members. “Excuses should not be made for these offenders; lessening the consequences of their actions will not only undermine the victim and his or her family, but also make it seem excusable after a short period of remorse,” says Jessica Wilde.
