(It was superseded by the agency NASA in 1958). NACA hired African-American women to be mathematicians as well as for white women too. Johnson was offered a job in 1953. She accepted became part of the early NASA team. At first she work in a bowl full of women performing all the math they could. Most of the women there wore skirts and glasses to show their smartness. Their main job was to read files and do the math skills. Katherine was assigned to help all-male flight research team. Katherine's knowledge help put a man into space. From 1953 to 1958 she worked as "the computer". The West Area Computers section supervised by the wonderful mathematician Dorothy Vaughan.
