The speech I chose to write about was John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address in 1961. This speech came at a crucial time for the U.S. as a country. Not only were there issues abroad with Communism in other countries, but the United States itself carried its own problems. From 1950’s into the early 1960’s, the United States was struggling with various issues with economy, labor, education, welfare, civil and women’s rights, medical, and unemployment. changes that had been made even after all the time that had gone by. In 1960, Kennedy executed his “New Frontier” speech at a Democratic National Convention. In this speech, he confronted “unsolved problems of peace and war, unconquered pockets of ignorance and prejudice, unanswered questions of poverty and surplus” (Inaugural Address, 1). This speech became well known and proved an advantage for Kennedy in the up-coming election. It gave hope to all the minority groups, especially African Americans that change was coming. Kennedy ended up winning the election that year largely because of all the support he received from African American voters. He also came across as poised and projected energy and idealism to the American public.
