The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the most important battles in the Civil War. By the middle of 1863 the South was in hopeless straits lacking needed food and supplies. Mr. Pickett was born on January 25, 1825, in Richmond, Virginia. He was a general for the Confederate in the Civil War. He is most commonly remembered for Pickett's Charge during the Battle of Gettysburg. He was in the U.S. Army until 1861 when he resigned to join the Confederate forces. At the battle of Gettysburg he was a division commander. He led his troops in the front of an attack aimed at Cemetery Ridge. This attack was designed to penetrate the center of the Union line. This charge took place on July 3, 1863. The hopeless assail has been called "the Confederacy's high-water mark." Some may even think that the attack was the worst disasters strategy that could be made at that time.

a Battle of Gettysburg. General Meade showed great skill at the Battle of Gettysburg from his management of his artillery to his men. It could be said that this and how he effectively led his section leaders was the main reason he defeated the Confederates.
