Little Joe y La Familia

Little Joe learned to play guitar at a very young age. In 1953 the 13year old was recruited by David Coronado & the latinaires. Little Joe brother joined the band in 1959 know as Jesse which replaced Coronado. This was when the name then changed to little Joe & the latinaires. Joe took great leadership and renamed it. Then, he was eager to get back to his roots and changed it again to La Familia. At this time he recorded the song Las Nubes which became an anthem for La Onda Chicana.

the group recorded the single Safari part one and two for Torrero Records. Tony Matamoras was the saxophone player and drummer was Cinco Moreno as well as David Coronado and the latinires, his cousin's band. Coronado bailed out and his brother Jessie joined the band 1959. Five years later Jesse died and a tragic car accident and Joe swore at his grave that he would make it big.
Joe started making records deals with a series of independent companies, including San Antonio Corona Records Austin's Valmon Records, and Dallas Zarape records. In 1968 he had his own indepdant company and began releasing records in both English and Spanish.
Little Joe used his feeling he had toward the loss of his brother into his music and he was able to succeed in life instead of failing. By 1991 he kept his promise he made to his brother and received his first Grammy that year for the song Diez Y De September.
