Ralph was running he was rescued by a naval officer. Although the boys could never forget the way they had behaved, evil didn’t win in the end.
They Cage the Animals at Night by Jennings Michael Burch also shows that in the end evil is not victorious. It is about the experiences of a young boy named Jennings. He was left at an orphanage by his sick mother. He would have to wait months before he saw his family again and had to deal with the many brutal foster parents he was given to. He did not have an easy childhood. He would get to know people, care for them and then lose them. On top of it all the nuns in the orphanages, the ones who supposedly have to “care” for him, treat him horribly. In his eyes they are evil. The one spark of goodness that Jennings sees is when Sister Clair allows him to keep Doggie, a stuffed animal which has been with him through all his experiences.
