The story I chose for my book report was Madness: A Bipolar Life by Marya Hornbacher. At age twenty-three, Hornbacher released a book before Madness called Wasted, her first book. The story covered another portion of her life on how she was diagnosed with bulimia and anorexia in her younger years. At beginning of the story Madness, I read how there’s a connection to her first novels’ story (wasted) as; “Hornbacher candidly and often brutally describes her life before and after the publication of her first book. At that time, she, her friends, family and therapists all believed that, with the conquering of her eating disorder, she would finally also have control over her chaotic and at times out-of-control life.” (“Madness: A Bipolar Life”). Another contribution to her disorder was the self-inflicting harm, which is introduced to the reader in just the opening pages of the story..
