Abstract

This paper will summarize three journal articles, each of them utilizing Abraham Maslow's theories to examine a specific idea. The first: "Motivating University Women to Positive Health" used Maslow's motivation theory to make an objective measurement of the basic needs levels. Summary two: "Beyond Self-Actualization" will show the continued progression of Maslow's self-actualization theory after his death. to measure and classify student motivation, also to study relationships between types of motivation and health plan patterns (Cauffman, 1966, pp.295).

Cauffman collected data over a two-year time span (1961-1963), using 220 freshman and sophomore females enrolled at UCLA in health education classes. Each was asked to develop a Plan Approach, consisting of five steps. Step 1: identify their PA, Step 2: show scientific evidence to support their PA, Step 3: verify progress or completion of PA, Step 4: evaluate their PA over a three month period, and Step 5: focus on the meaning of the PA for effective living, now and in the future (Cauffman, 1966, pp.296).

Results showed that behavioral changes were 65.8 percent which is impressive indicating progress toward modifying human behavior.
