McCarthyism and The Crucible

Arthur Miller's The Crucible is a play in which a village called Salem becomes plagued by McCarthyism, a campaign with the sole purpose of accusing others of an "invisible" crime they had never committed. McCarthyism is truly evil because the accused cannot be easily defended, due to the lack of evidence that he or she did not commit this invisible crime, and the general public's fears, which caused great hysteria and led to them not requiring any evidence.
