Me vs Stereotypes

People look at me and all they see is my blue hair and my facial piercings. When they see that, about 99.9% of the time they jump to the conclusion that I must be a bad person. I’ve had people ask if I do drugs, or one time I even got asked if I had ever been to jail! People look at me... and blue hair and piercings is all they see.
Living in a small town sucks when it comes to stereotypes. The adults at school think I don’t care about my grades because I’m absent a lot of the time. The truth is though I get sick really easily and can’t always make it to school. How can someone judge a person by their hair or body modifications? How does it affect the person personality? The correct answer is that it doesn’t. “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Just because someones face is different does not mean they are a bad person. Who knows that you just stereotyped or just said mean things to might just have the purest of hearts.
People may judge me but I try not to let it change what kind of a person I am. “I’m a lover not a fighter, but I will fight for what I love”. All that matters is that at the end of the day I’m proud of who I am. I will not change myself to fit someone else’s definition of “normal”. I know I am not a bad kid, I am a wonderful person, with a good head on my shoulders and I am a dang good friend. Some may stereotype me as “strange”, but to me I am a colorist, trying to give color to a black and white world. At the end of the day, I am not ashamed of who I have grown up to be.
