Lights, Camera, Action! A common phrase heard from a motion picture director. The director is the main part of the creation of a major motion picture. He is involved in almost all of the various stages of a film production. He puts forth all effort into taking a written story and changing it into a visual image. Films are being produced daily and the director is behind the magic. In a movie, people see actors and actresses portraying a story, but the director creates this story and makes it come to life. A director has many jobs that must be known and taken care of in order to produce a motion picture. He must prepare and decide on a script, choose a cast and a film crew, raise money for production, and find the proper security for when shooting scenes (Marner, p.'6). Before he can even begin on the movie, however, he must first find the proper equipment. This equipment is the tools the director will use to film the entire production. One part of the equipment a director will use is gauges of film. There are three gauges of film which may come within the budget of a film group (Ferguson, p.'").
