In his play, Shakespeare signifies the relationships between men and women through the portrayal of two characters named Beatrice and Benedick. (1.1.45) When Don Pedro tells Beatrice, he has wooed Hero for the inarticulate Claudio, in contrast to their behaviour Beatrice says, "I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow, than a man swear he loves me," (1.1.116) which could be targeting wisdom.
