After countless tests and investigations into Jamie’s illnesses, doctors could find no apparent causes and were baffled. They began to suspect that Jamie’s mother might be inducing his recurrent illnesses. Shortly after, Jamie complained to a nurse that his leg was sore because “mommy gave me shots”. The hospital alerted authorities and surveillance cameras were installed in his hospital room. Due to the extremity of the abuse, nine percent of Munchausen victims die at the hands of their perpetrator, which is the child’s own mother ninety-eight percent of the time (Feldman 147).
