The French and Indian War was a nationalizing experience for the British colonies. It brought them together in battle against a common foe and was a source of much resentment between the English government and the colonists. As the war progressed, the resentment between the English government and the colonist grew due to the lack of government support in the colonies. The colonist learned to fight and with the help of the American press, they joined together in a united front.
Before the war, there was great disunity among the colonies due to their mutual distrust and the fact that they felt they had very little in common. They had a variety of different religions, nationalities, and ...

all across the colonies sat together in war strategy meetings and fought side by side in the battles and they found after talking amongst themselves that they had more in common than they had originally imagined. (1) They discovered that they were all fellow Americans who, for the most part, spoke the same language and shared the same goals and ideals. The French were a threat to all of them. They learned that they could be strong when they banded together, and they needed to be because in the early years of the war there were few British naval reinforcements. Because of this, the colonists had to handle the war mostly on their own. The British soldiers that were there were of little help because, even though they outnumbered the French, they were slow in receiving orders from Britain. The colonists lost their earlier feeling of being protected by the mother country. This lack of government support contributed to some of the anarchy created by the colonists.
