A report published in a reputed international has brought to light the alleged nuclear pollution in the town of Jaduguda, merely 30 km away from the industrial town Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. Jaduguda is home to the country's oldest uranium mine that was being operated by Jharkhand Government owned Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) from 1967 to 2014. The mine was shut down since on the directive of the Central Government since UCIL's lease was to be renewed. Reports indicate that uranium was being extracted to the tune of 1000 tonnes per day.
