These sanctuaries are called different names in different parts of Igbo land due to the vast dialect of the people. The fact that CHI can be personalized as well as shared by the community may explain the Igbo acceptance and affinity for the Christian religion. Also, there are many names in the Igbo culture that begin with CHI. For example, my niece’s name is Chinyere, which means God’s gift.

When considering how meals are prepared in Nigeria, one needs to realize that the Igbo society (as well as the other two ethnic cultures) is very patrilineal. The husband is the head of the household, and the "well-being" of the family is the man's foremost responsibility not only to his family but also to the larger community.
