Odysseus and his men reached the land of the cyclops and upon arrival, went to explore the mainland and meet some of the islands inhabitants. They came upon the cave of Polyphemus (son of Poseidon) and went inside just to wind up being trapped by the cyclops. Polyphemus came home with a herd of sheep and pushed a huge rock in front of the door. Despite Odysseus' pleas for hospitality, the cyclops grabbed and ate some of Odysseus's men.
