images of light and darkness next to each other. As Steinbeck said outside
there is "evening brightness" and inside there is "dusk". When Steinbeck
says that inside there is dusk, it's almost like a foreshadow of what's going to
happen in the future. Most likely something bad will happen and it does.
The situation during this scene involves mostly Curly and Lennie in
which they get into a fist fight. This fight starts off because of Curly's

So as expected Curly punches the huge man Lennie continuously until
Lennie draws blood. Lennie is of course bewildered about the whole thing
because he doesn't know what to do. So naturally he turns to George and
asks what he should do. And instead of George and the other guys breaking
up the fight, the continually let Curly beat Lennie up. So George tells Lennie
to fight back, but Lennie has never fought before so he does the only he
could do, he grabs Curly's hand and flops Curly around until it is crushed.
Lennie would not let go of Curly's hand until George told him to. Finally
George told him to let go and Lennie went from the Incredible Hulk to that
innocent little boy ...
