After reading the essay “On the uses of a Liberal Education as Lite Entertainment for Bored College Students” by Mark Edmunson, published in 1997, I gained more knowledge about America’s education in universities now. The essay, at first, makes me feel like an evaluation, but gradually the paper has revealed itself as a persuasive work. Students today want their teachers to be entertaining, to go easy on them. They are more interested in being educated consumers than educated people.

to amuse, to divert, or even, for that matter, to be merely interesting”, and by saying that, he suggests that professors are forced to be entertaining, “Because that’s what works”. He says, “I think that many of [my students] have imbibed their sense of self from consumer culture and in general from the tube in particular.”
This attitude, he suggests, has led to a lack of passion.
