Sometimes, people's behavior can be affected by different social situations. In the video, two different experiments showed how people act when put into different situations.
In the first situation, students took part in a prison experiment. This experiment was called the Philips Embardo Experiments. In this experiment students were taken to a prison, and some were made guards, and the others inmates. The experiment was supposed to last 14 days. It only lasted 6 because of the effect it had on people. In this short period of time, the inmates actually thought they were inmates, and the guards actually thought they were guards. The second experiment was the ROTC Experiment. In this experiment, two groups of people were put in a flight simulator after being given an eye exam, and being exposed to different situations. The first group was given a vision test, then was given flight suits, and was told to read the same test off a plane that was to fly by in the simulator. The second group was given the same eye exam, then was not given a flight suit, and also told that the simulator was broken. They were also to read the same exam off the plane. The study showed that the scores of the people who were not given suits, and told the simulator was broken, did not improve in comparison to the other group who did have flight suits.
The independent variables in this experiment was the fact that people got flight suits and others didn't, and that some were also told the simulator was broken. The dependent variable was that the first groups scores ...
