Personal Writing: The Zoo


Some of my friends and I made a visit to the zoo last Sunday. We took a taxi there and reached the zoo at 9:00 A.M.
We entered through the main gate and went directly to see the wild animals. We came to the tiger’s cage first. Behind the iron bars, we saw some tigers walking around the cage. Their bodies were covered with spotted coats of black and yellow fur. They didn’t appear to be ferocious. Next to the tigers cage was a lion’s cage. This king of the beasts, with its thick and long mane was lying down quietly in the corner of the cage. It didn’t look as dominant as I imagined it would look. very alert and stared back at the people. Some of them clung to the iron bars, waiting for someone to hand them a banana or some peanuts. We left the monkeys’ cage and went to see the elephants. They were wandering loose in an open area, which was surrounded by large deep trenches. Bordering the trenches was a heavy iron fence. The elephants had rough and mildewed-looking skin. Their long and flexible trunks were moving constantly begging someone to give them food. A boy responded and threw some pieces of sugar cane. One elephant used its trunk to catch the sugar cane and lifted up to its mouth. Then the elephant hastily chewed it.
We moved from the wild animal area to see the birds. There were many different and beautiful colored ones. Some sang and chirped melodiously and others quacked noisily. From this area we walked to where the deer and antelope were kept. We felt as if we were wandering in a jungle. We were so interested in watching the deer that we lost ...
