Pioneer Life

The pioneer children had games to entertain them. Some of the games were tug-a-war, graces, and races. Tug-a-war is where you see who is the strongest by tugging a rope. Graces is where you have two sticks and a ring and you try to throw and catch the ring on the sticks as gracefully as you can. Races are where you have a wooden board with another little piece of wood attached to it for pushing a metal ring, taken from a wagon. Children would then race to see who could push the ring the farthest.
The pioneer women cooked outside with either wooden or metal utensils. Their cookies were like biscuits made with molasses. The most common cause for death was burning to death. While the women ...

The pioneers did not have cars to travel in, so they used wagons or handcarts. Only one wagon or handcart was permitted for each family. Wagons were drawn by oxen, and handcarts were drawn by people. They also used the hand carts as shelter for a family of 8 when raining.
