Possibility Of Terraforming One Of Earth's Neighboring Planets

The focus of this research is to assign a Kuhnian perspective to the possibility of terraforming one of Earth's neighboring, terrestrial planets. I decided to utilize "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" by
Thomas Kuhn, as a primary source because Kuhn offers a precise evaluation of historic scientific innovation with the appropriate critical distance necessary to obtain relative objectivity.
This retrospective observation is beneficial to the analysis of terraforming because it provides an outline and serves as a model from which to construct the theoretical foundation of engineering a planetary environment. Terraforming by definition, is the application of technology for the ...

regarded as a textbook of the future called Terraforming: Engineering Planetary Environments. I have chosen Fogg's book as my second primary source because it is the only book of its kind that addresses the question of terraforming in a non- science fiction context.
The successful terraformation of a planet requires the synthetic development of a biosphere. The problems that present themselves are indigenous to the Geophysical and chemical properties of each test subject (planet). Overcoming these obstacles requires an in depth knowledge of each planet's atmosphere and soil composition. The Earth must be used as a point of reference. For instance, one must know how oceans were formed on Earth in order to replicate the process on Mars or Venus. The same is true for fertile soil, breathable air and the origin of life.
I will extrapolate beyond existing technological capability in order to superimpose Kuhn's perspective on the viability of this future science. I will predict some of ...

higher temperatures. The result was a lesser quantity of free oxygen in the atmosphere (Tillery 1993).
The earth's composition of an iron-rich core and a silicon-rich mantle is the direct result of the intense heat caused by the contraction of the solid mass and the melting of radioactive matter. About 2.5 billion years ago a period of magmatic differentiation introduced a significant quantity of granite into the earth's crust. The presence of granite caused an extensive elevation in the continental landmasses and a fusion into a single landmass known as the supercontinent of Pangea. A rapid increase in atmospheric oxygen approximately 570 million years ago marked the beginning of the ...
