narrator alludes to this uncertainty when he tries to predict the results of these choices. Both roads diverge into a "yellow wood," obscuring the rest of the paths behind the mass of plants. Furthermore, the narrator's vision is limited since the paths bend into "the undergrowth."
However, much can still be inferred from the parts of the roads that were visible. One path was the more common route. Thus, even though the end of the path was hidden by undergrowth, the reader can discern that this path is safe and familiar. If he makes the "safe choice," the narrator is assured of life that is predictable.
In contrast, the other path was "grassy and wanted wear." People who choose this more difficult path in are thus willing to take risks. They would forsake the easy and predictable existence for the chance to live extraordinary lives.
