Rachel Carson


, a world renown biologist wrote many books inspired
by her work as an employee for the US fish and wildlife services. During
her time with the wildlife services, Carson witnessed sever environmental
corruption. Carson witnessed the death of animals due to pesticide
spraying. Carson was very passionate about the effect of chemicals on the
environment. The contamination case of Woburn, MA relates to her works
because it is involved with environmental corruption, and poisons in the
water. It portrays how harming the environment can eventually eat away at
our society.

Rachel Louis Carson was born on May 27, 1907 in Springdale, PA.
Her childhood was characterized by a love of nature and literature. Her
family said she was born with a “seashell in her ear”. She graduated from
the Pennsylvania College for Women in 1929 with a degree in Marine Biology
and from John Hopkins University in 1932 with a masters degree. The death
of her father and family was responsible for preventing her from pursuing
any further higher education. She took a job from the Fish and Wildlife
Service. She worked there from 1935 to 1952.

which served as a foundation for her first book, published in 1941"While
working for the Fish and Wildlife service, Carson began to write. In 1941
Under the Sea Wind is published. In 1951 The Sea Around Us is published.
