After the Civil War the United States was a new nation, because It was now free. Millions of enslaved African Americans had won their freedom. But that did not stop the white people from being racist and seeing them as human beings. Their was many brutal incidents that happened after the Civil War. Americans were exhausted from the on going war, many had lost their loved ones and the handwork of the bridges and railroads were damaged. The north's wealth grew more then the southern wealth.
