With the growing improvement of computers, there’s an increasing need of concern on who should be accountable for computer disposal, whether it be on the consumer, the government, or the industry in which it was developed, accountability wise, I believe that we as consumers generate far too much waste, with too little recycling. The industry itself takes time in developing their products while we as the consumer reap all its benefits. For instance, in the past, CRT monitors are a thing of the past due to the upward rise of LCD technology that has radically taken over as the reigning title holder for all reputable contenders. wasting valuable resources and threatening our health and the environment. Ideally, manufacturers of consumer goods would help pay for the collection and responsible recycling of the products they produce, keeping them out of land fills but it is solely on the consumer to take the initiative and properly dispose of the goods. If those ideals are not met, we as consumers are missing a tremendous opportunity to make today’s waste, tomorrow’s products.

With a growing awareness of how important it is to recycle computers, there are now plentiful ways to recycle or donate a used computer. For example, computer refurbishing services offer an alternative and more environmentally sound solution. If a computer is less than five years old and is in workable condition, it may be a good idea to donate a used computer instead of sending it off to be recycled.
