I attended an event in February that had the Mayor of Newark, Corey Booker, as the speaker. Corey Booker is becoming very well known in the realm of politics these days because he has a different approach than most. He is a down to earth guy who feels that he has to connect directly with the people in order to see their problems and then solve them. He recently has been in the news as a possible candidate for a Senate seat in New Jersey and even possibly a Presidential Candidate at some point. He did not rule that out in his speech. stories and some emotional ones but they all had an impact and fit well into the greater scheme of his speech. You could tell they worked by the way people in the audience were laughing and crying at times. He was able to connect which brought a greater ability to understand his messages. He spoke of things like having to change your attitude if you can't change the situation. Also he said that to change something it can happen much quicker at the grassroots community level. This way, people can get to see the changes accumulating faster over time as a result of small individual changes. I personally agreed with a lot of what he was saying. If I had to vote for a president next time around I would definitely consider voting for Corey Booker. He was an honest and smart guy and I am glad Villanova provided the opportunity to see him in person before he gets to be too protected as a national politician.
