There are certain poets in the world of poetry that have a particular talent of being able to speak straight to us. All the walls of emotion we put up to protect ourselves are broken down through the power of their words. One poet who does this to perfection is the truly inspirational Sandy Jeffs. Sandy Jeffs is an Australian poet from Ballarat. She has lived with schizophrenia for over thirty years and one of the most beautiful things about her and her condition is that she doesn't shy away from it. She embraces it and accepts that it's who she is and even more than that, she shares it with us. Sandy Jeffs' poetry speaks to me in ways I have never experienced before. Because of this, I believe through her feelings, stories and powerful, heart driven words she can make you see the true beauty in poetry. The beauty that I see.
