Along with a wild creature, Pearl is seen as something that is painful yet loving in Hester’s life. Pearl created her own scarlet letter, however, she created her’s out of green seaweed that Pearl had found. She wore it around in almost humiliating way of Hester. Hester sees as Pearl as “My happiness! –She is my torture” (103). “She is the scarlet letter, only capable of being loved, and so endowed with a million-fold the power of retribution for my sin.” (103)
Along with “the evil which she inherited from her mother” (163), “a noble woman grows out of this elfish child”. (163) Pearl is often leading her mother and is like an “April breeze”.
