Likewise, it would be safe to assume that in terms of social class the community, and the representative audience, was middle/working class. After the meeting I asked Battye whether the attending audience ever varied much to which she laughed and replied “No.” A small community such as Lebanon’s usually has a large audience like this meeting did as everyone is concerned with the welfare of the education system; still the faces in the crowd seldom changed.
The meeting itself was exactly as Mrs. Battye had said it would be- an extremely formal evaluation of current maintenance issues.
