Vocabulary:

•Photosynthesis - is the process in which light energy is converted into chemical energy.

•Autotrophs - an organism that produces it's own nutrients from inorganic substances or from the environment instead of consuming other organisms.

•Heterotrophs - an organism that obtains organic good molecules by eating other organisms or their by products and that cannot synthesize organic compounds from inorganic materials.

get energy from good through the prices of cellular respiration. Cellular respiration releases energy in food to make ATP. This ATP provides cells with the energy they need to carry out the activities of life.

In cells chemical energy that is stored in food molecules is released gradually in a serious of enzyme-assisted chemical reactions. When food molecules are broken down, some of the energy is released as heat. ATP delivers energy where it is needed in a cell. The energy is used to power other chemical reactions.

ATP is a nucleotide with two extra energy storing phosphate groups. The three phosphate groups in ATP form a chain that branches from a five carbon sugar called ribose. The phosphate tail is unstable because the phosphate groups are negatively charged and repel each other.

Review:

1. ATP

2. Autotrophs can use light as a means to generate energy and can often fix their own carbon and nitrogen. Heterotrophs have to get their carbon and glucose and other ...
